In the early part of 1948, Emanuele D’Amico rented a storefront at 309 Court Street, (which he later purchased) in what was then know as “Red Hook” Brooklyn, NY. Little did he know that a tradition of high quality and service began, which is still experienced at D’Amico’s today. With an old-fashioned manual roaster Emanuele roasted the finest coffee beans available. The rich aroma filled the neighborhood and drew customers in. The atmosphere of the store was pleasant and friendly, this encouraged many “old timers” to sit awhile and chat. Within the first few years of the business, Emanuele’s son Frank joined him and soon imported olive oils, canned goods, spices and cheese were added to the coffee sacks that lined the walls of D’Amico Coffee. Not too many years after that Alessandro (Alex) married to Frank’s younger sister Anna, joined the family business and became our “Master Roaster”. Alessandro dedicated years to the art of roasting and achieved high standards creating the perfect roast that make our coffee so delicious and unique. With Emanuele’s passing, his son Frank continued to expand the business by creating a successful mail order (much ahead of his time). Originally shipping coffee and gourmet foods within the USA.

In 1998 Frank’s son, Frank, Jr. (Francis to the family) along with his wife Joan (a long-time customer) became the third generation to run the family business. Now 70 years later and through many changes and renovations we are proud to say D’Amico’s is still thriving. The store itself has evolved and is now a “coffee shop” with a fairly impressive menu. A selection of seven freshly brewed coffees to choose from is available daily. You pour, you sit awhile, you chat. The fancy stuff, cappuccino, espresso, latte and much more, we serve you. Here at D’Amico Coffee it is a serious business, roasted daily, now by Frank, Jr. in small batches, ground when ordered to guarantee freshness and always service with a smile, just like Emanuele and Frank, Sr. before us.
